Face off - Angle Analysis
They used a high angle shot that is used to look at his victim. It shows that Nicolas Cage is higher up than the innocent people because they can't do anything to stop the man with the gun
They used the zoom shot towards the end of the clip just after the villain has shot the innocent man and the innocent child, it zooms into his face to show the expression on his face when he realises he has killed the innocent child
The dark knight
Establishing shot is used at the very beginning of the film. It shows the audience where the film is set. It's effective because it starts the scene and shows the audience how big Gotham City is.
Close up shot is used when the villains are in the bank and he puts the grenade into a mans hand. So this shows that later on in the film there will be an explosion. This is exciting for the audience because they'll want to know what happens later on in the film. It shows the audience that the men in the bank are evil and will hurt/kill people for what they want. It also shows its a thriller because it thrills the audience
Face off framing, Rule of Thirds, Focus
When the innocent man puts his son on his lap they use the rule of thirds because it draws the audiences attention to them two. This is on the left hand side of the screen so all the audiences attention is just on the left side of the screen.
They also use shallow focus at the same time because all of the background is blurred out because they want all the audiences attention to be on the innocent man and the innocent child.
When the innocent man (John Travolta) puts his son on his lap they use the rule of thirds because it draws the audiences attention to them two which is on the left side of the screen so all the audiences attention is just on the left side of the screen.

Face Off (Production, Distribution and Exhibition)
Production details:
The director of the film Face off is John Woo, the writers
are Mike Werb and Michael Colleary. There are three main characters in the film
- John Travolta, Nicolas Cage and Joan
Allen. John Travolta and Nicolas Cage are very big actors and were big before
Face/Off, this is why they were two great choices for the film to make because
it will attract the audience better, John Travolta had been in loads of films
before but his popular ones were grease and pulp function. This is the same
with Nicolas Cage but his most popular ones are Con Air and The Rock. Joan
Allen has been in 21 films before but never really had big parts and not
popular films. There were three main product companies involved – Permut presentations,
Touchstone pictures and Paramount .
All product companies have made many of films before and all three have had
popular ones, Permut presentations done Blind Date and Money for nothing,
Touchstone pictures done Ransom, Last dance and Con Air, This would have been good
as this company have already worked with Nicolas Cage in a film just recently
before and Paramount Pictures done all the Star Treks, The God Father and
Ghost.
Distribution details:
The target audience of the film is over 18s as the films
certification is an 18. The film was released on the 7th November

Face/Off Mise en scene
In the film Face/Off they use a high angle Nicolas Cage because he is more powerful than John Travolta which makes him higher than John Travolta.
Nicolas Cage is looking down at John Travolta through his sniper gun while John
is going around on a merry-go-round with his son.
John Travolta and his son are happy at the beginning of the film when they are together, so the child is dressed in bright colours to show that they are happy whereas Nicolas Cage is on a mission to kill, so he is dressed in all black to
show that he is dark.
Nicolas has a serious face on through most of the film, but
when he realises that John is with his son his face changes into a shocked face
because he didn’t expect John to be with his son, however he continues on with
his mission and that is to kill John Travolta. When Nicolas shoots the bullet
it hits John goes through him and kills his son, after we see Nicolas’s face
expression change into being really shocked and guilty/ashamed for what he has
done.
John Travolta is happy though out the whole film opener
because he is on a ride having a good time with his son, however once his been
shot he crawls to his son where he then picks his son up and cry’s once he sees
his son is dead.
When John Travolta’s son has been shot you see three red balloons
go up in the air, this is representing that his life has gone/his child hood
has gone, it goes up in the air because that’s where his son is going now
(heaven).
The opening of the film is light all the way through it when
it is on John Travolta because he is happy and having a good time with his son
so the lighting is bright and also it is daylight. However when it goes on
Nicolas Cage the lightning goes dull and looks dark to represent his character.
After John Travolta’s son has been killed the lightning goes black and white to
represent death.
How editing is used in Face/Off opening scene
The film editing is continuity
editing because it is all one story and smooth, it is not mixed up and it does
not have flash backs. The film opening also uses the 180 degree rule every time
the camera goes to John Travolta he is on the left and is always on the left,
whereas Nicolas Cage is always on the right side of the camera.
Eye line shot is used when Nicolas Cage is shocked/ashamed
when he kills John Travolta’s son in the film he is staring at John Travolta
and his dead son on the floor and then the shot changes to John Travolta and
his son.
Insert shot is also used on the merry-go-round horse, the
merry-go-round horse what John Travolta was sitting on is shown all the time in
the background when the camera shots are on John Travolta however, the end of
the opening scene all the camera focus is on that horse to show the blood on
the horse and to show death on the horse.
Vertical Limit Script
After today's lesson this has taught me that there are many camera angles and editing you can use in one clip to grip the audiences attention. To increase tension that quick cuts are very useful it makes the audience have to keep concentration to keep up with the film, also close up help by showing the emotion in their faces. Their is a handheld camera used to show how shaky the situation is and to build more tension for the audience.

Time Lines
Face/Off
In these timelines we can see that both the cast names and the producers names are on screen for 3 seconds each, so they all have the same amount of time each. However the main film title Face/Off is on the screen for 5 seconds to indicate to the audience that it is the films title. We can also see that the editing reflects the thriller genre, so it is clear that the genre is a thriller through just the opening credits.
Kill Bill
In the Kill Bill timeline we see that once again both the names and producers names last 2 seconds each so they all have the same amount of time. The soundtrack starts once the title names have been up and finished. It also starts the audience asking questions.
